Things to do in Blackheath

Blackheath is an enchanting escape for romantics, a delight for foodies and lovers of art and for people with a desire to reconnect with our natural world. Tucked away in the village of inspiration, Brantwood is the perfect base for your Blue Mountains getaway. You may choose to stay in and enjoy the peaceful surroundings, or venture out to see what Blackheath and the nearby villages have to offer.

During the cooler months the picturesque village of Blackheath swells with tourists. The streets are alive with fine dining options, go-slow cafes, gourmet delicatessens, art galleries, boutique gift shops, a wealth of antiques that will pique your interest, and a couple of friendly pubs.

Just 90 minutes from Sydney, Blackheath is blessed with some of the most spectacular seasonal colour displays. The spring time gardens are afresh with early leaves, an abundance of azaleas and Blackheath’s renowned rhododendrons. With their romantic perfume, apple and cherry blossoms freshen and sweeten the air. In the summer you will experience the cool breeze that comes with being at the peak of the Mountains and evenings where the village is enveloped by a fragrant, dewy mist. With leaf littered streets and the crackle of burning log fires, Autumn is the most evocative time of year. The turn and fall of leaves tell us that winter is on its way, leaving pathways carpeted in crimson, okra and gold. Winter brings an uplifting pine scented breeze, a chill that reddens the tip of your nose ... and the possibility of snow. No matter what time of year you choose to stay, Blackheath will impart an impression that will stay with you, always.

Meander the stalls of the Blackheath Growers Market held every second Sunday of the month at Blackheath Community Hall. Indulge your tastebuds, stock up on gourmet delights and organic handpicked local produce. Blackheath is also known for its creative, arty community. You will find unique, hand-crafted gifts by local artisans at the Craft Markets held every third Sunday of the month at the Community Hall or Blackheath Public School.

Perfect for golfing groups – Picturesque Blackheath Golf Course is located around the corner from Brantwood – a challenging Par 69 course and home to beautiful birdlife, its fairways are lined with seasonal displays, absolutely stunning through Autumn and Spring. After a round of golf you are welcome to enjoy some genuine Blue Mountains hospitality. In the Club House there’s a restaurant, bar, billiards room and barbecue, or enjoy a relaxing drink on the deck overlooking the course.

At the peak of the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains, Blackheath is 1065 metres above sea level. For the most breathtaking valley, escarpment and waterfall views, you can’t miss this cluster of Blackheath lookouts. Be awed by the views from Govett’s Leap, Evan’s Lookout, Popes Glen, Hargraves Lookout, Braeside Walk, Grand Canyon and Pulpit Rock. Wonder beneath majestic rain forests and into verdant fern gullies to find a magical series of cascades. Venture into the Megalong Valley, discover lush scenery and secret walks through Coachwood Glen and Mermaid’s Cave. There are bushwalks to suit every level of fitness. Safety advice, maps and GPS are available and highly recommended at Blue Mountains Heritage Centre at the end of Govett’s Leap Road.

Famous for its spectacular scenery and exhilarating walks, Blackheath is also home to some of the best cafes, fine dining restaurants and art galleries in the Blue Mountains. The old world look of our village has been enchantingly retained but within it you will find many hidden treasures. Wake up to the sound of currawongs in morning call, the aroma of freshly baked bread, great coffee and …

Time seems to move more slowly at this altitude. As we gaze into the valleys we are awed by the immensity, the sense of wisdom and the forever of time. In these moments we feel grounded and close to nature again. We feel connected and impressed by the way nature conspires to bring us places of such beauty.

Choose a pace that suits you. Fine wines, crackling log fires, scenic walks, bright stars and misty mornings – we look forward to welcoming you at Brantwood Cottage.
